Mum’s Super Quick Asian Meatballs

I loved these pork meatballs as a kid, and I definitely haven’t grown out of them! With a standout Thai taste, they’re super yum. Try them dipped into sweet chilli sauce as an appetiser or party food addition – even on picnics or in your little one’s lunchbox!

PREP TIME

Ingredients

2 garlic cloves

2 coriander (cilantro) roots

1 tsp whole white peppercorns (alternatively use black peppercorns)

300g (10 oz) pork mince

1 tbsp fish sauce

1 egg, lightly whisked

4 tbsp vegetable oil

2 tbsp roughy chopped coriander (cilantro) leaves

Your choice of chilli sauce to serve e.g. Marion’s Kitchen Coconut Sweet Chili or Marion’s Kitchen Coconut Sriracha or Marion’s Kitchen Sweet Chili to serve (use my store locator to find out where to buy) or any hot or sweet chilli dipping sauce that you prefer

Steps
  • Step 1

Use a mortar and pestle to pound the garlic, coriander and peppercorns to a rough paste. Add the paste to the pork mince along with the fish sauce and the egg. Mix well, using your hands to slap the mixture against the bowl. This will help to firm up the texture of the meatballs. Form the mixture into small meatballs.

  • Step 2

Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook meatballs in batches for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, or until cooked through. Drain on paper towel.

  • Step 3

Serve meatballs topped with coriander leaves and with your choice of dipping sauce.

Delicious and easy!

I’d forgotten how good chopped coriander root is. These were absolutely delicious meatballs and packed a big flavour punch for so few ingredients. I didn’t have plain white peppercorns but used mixed (black, green, pink, white) instead. Served with rice and a salad of chopped tomato, cucumber and coriander leaves with lemon juice, dash of sesame oil and fish sauce – yum!

Pork Meatballs by Marion's Mom

If you like Asian meatballs you will like this recipe for a pork meatball. So easy, and again you can adjust seasons/herbs/aromatics. You may not want to. (I use a smidgen less off the crushed white pepper corns.) Dipping sauces to your taste. I like an Asian dumpling sauce (soy, touch of teriyaki or housin, drops of sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger if desired, finely chopped scallion, a little minced Thai chili or oil – letting flavor for 4 hours to overbite. Remove the solids as much as possible. I add scallion and chili just before using only.) You may prefer the suggested dipping sauces but my clan prefers the salty, savory sauce served with many pork gyoza. Which by the way works well with this pork filling!!
